St. Sebastian Church, Permannur Celebrates Parish Day
Feb 08, 2026 : The parishioners of St. Sebastian Church, Permannur, gathered in large numbers to celebrate their annual Parish Day on February 8th. The day’s proceedings began at 4:00 PM with a Solemn Eucharistic Celebration led by Rev. Fr Rohan Dias, Assistant Administrator of Father Muller Medical College Hospital. Con-celebrating the Mass were Parish Priest Rev. Fr Joseph D’Souza, Resident Priest Rev. Fr Cyprian Pinto, along with Rev. Fr Melvin D’Souza and Rev. Fr Valerian Pinto.
Following the spiritual commencement, the formal stage programme began at 5:45 PM. The guests of honor and Parish Ward Leaders (Gurkars) were ceremoniously welcomed to the dais accompanied by the traditional beats of a brass band. The atmosphere was set with a prayer song and a graceful welcome dance performed by the youth.
A significant portion of the evening was dedicated to recognizing the backbone of the parish community. Members of the Parish Pastoral Council, dedicated Catechism teachers, church volunteers, and families with twins were honored for their selfless service and presence. Mr Arun D’Souza, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council, officially welcomed the assembly, while Secretary Mrs. Jyothi D’Souza read a comprehensive report detailing the parish's progress and developmental milestones over the last five and a half years. Mr Dolphy D’Souza, Coordinator of the Commissions, expressed gratitude to all through the vote of thanks.
The event was presided over by the Parish Priest and graced by esteemed dignitaries including Rev. Fr Michael Santhumayor (Administrator, FMMC), Rev. Fr Joseph Mascarenhas (Parish Priest, Fajir), and the Superiors of the Bethel, Nirmala, and St. Aloysius convents Sr Jyothika B.S., Sr Alphonsa, and Sr Ezilda.
The spirit of community was most evident during the "Parish Family Meal," where traditional food prepared by the parishioners themselves was served to a massive crowd of 2,500 people. The event was smoothly anchored by Mr Demetrius D’Souza, Rishal D’Souza, and Rayan D’Souza. The evening transitioned into a vibrant cultural showcase featuring various dances and skits, culminating in an energetic Baila. The successful celebration officially concluded at 10:00 PM, leaving the parishioners with a sense of unity and joy.
